GENERAL RULES:

1. $50.00 ENTRY FEE, which includes the following

2 cases of Wings (to be cooked and given out during public tasting)

2 free Wing Fest T-Shirts

Paper products provided for the public wing tasting

THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY COOKS MEETING AT 10:00 AM!!

 

 

2. INGREDIENTS & PREPARATION:

Everything must be cooked at the competition. Chicken wings must be cooked from the raw state with no pre-marinating or pre-injecting. You will be provided with approximately 2 cases of wings to prepare at the competition. Any pre-cooked items will result in disqualification. Any seasoning or ingredient necessary to create unique taste is acceptable.

Teams must bring tables, chairs, cooking utensils, cooking equipment, portable hand wash station, paper towels, a trash can and trash bags. Canopies and tents will be each teams responsibility.

 

ALL COOKS MUST BRING 2- 48QT COOLERS TO THE COOKS MEETING TO STORE YOUR WINGS IN. WE WILL PROVIDE ICE AT THE MEETING!

 

 

 

 

3. JUDGING OF THE WINGS:

The cook off will encompass six categories:

 

Best Traditional Wing Sauce

Best BBQ Wing Sauce

Most Unique Wing Sauce

Restaurant Division

People’s Choice

Showmanship

 

NEW RESTAURANT DIVISION FOR 2008!

*This division is open to all businesses that serve food.

 

*Wings can be prepared at your place of business, and transferred to the festival  site. Or you can prepare them on site, following all of the same rules and regulations as the other classes.

 

*Your tent/booth must be set up by 11:00am, and you must have all of your wings on site by 1:45 pm

 

*If you don’t have a tent or tables, please let us know ahead of time, and we can make arrangements to have a spot for you to set up at.

Turn in time for the wings is 2:00 pm ; Each team must turn in 4 wings for judging

 

People’s Choice ballots will be given out to every public taster throughout the competition. The trophy for Peoples Choice will be awarded based on spectator participation. Judging will take place at 3:30 pm, as an official will be by to collect your ballots that you received.

 

In addition to awards for wings, there will be a Showmanship Trophy awarded for best booth design, costumes, music and crowd involvement. Judges will be looking for originality, design, and interactions with the crowd as criteria for this award.

 

 

4. PUBLIC TASTING AT 2:00 PM:

At 2:00 we will begin public tasting of the wings. Patrons will buy a punch card allowing them to go around and sample each contestant’s wings. They will also be given a paper boat to put the wings in. One punch = 1 wing. The booster club will provide people to punch the cards at your booth. The tasting will go on while the wings last. Remember to try to get as many People’s Choice ballots as possible during the public tasting. Awards will be given out shortly after the tasting.

 

 

 

5. REGISTRATION:

Upon arrival at the event, the team captain must check in with the Chairman for area assignment, and any new information concerning the cook off.

 

6. BOOTH SET UP:

You can begin setting up your area at 8:30 am on Saturday August 4th. Team’s area must be set up by 10:30 am. Area space will be 10-ft x 15-ft. Elaborate area designs are encouraged and will be judged as a part of the Showmanship award. Public displays and demonstrations are encouraged as a part of crowd involvement. Decorations are not mandatory.

 

 

6. BOOTH TEAR DOWN:

Areas must be cleaned up at the end of the festival. All equipment must be off the premises immediately following the event. If you are not a food vendor, you will be assigned an area where you can break down immediately following the competition. If you are a food vendor, you will be assigned a spot for the duration of the event. Please clean up any trash that is within your booth space and deliver all garbage to the dumpster.

For those of you who are frying their wings a Wing Fest Official will be able to direct you to the grease dumpster where you can dispose of your old grease after the cook off.

 

 

 

7. APPLICATION & FEES:

Cook off applications and fees must be received by August 2nd. There will be no walk up competitors accepted. Entry fee checks can be made payable to East Dubuque Warrior Booster Club. You will receive conformation and acceptance before the cook off. All entry fees are non-refundable.
